Nadia and Carol
Nadia Comaneci was born on the 12th of November, 1961 in Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej (now Onesti), Romania. Nadia is the Romanian Olympic gymnast, and has the record of being given 10/10 points at an Olympic competition. Bela Karrolyi was an Romanian gymnastics instructor who was later Comaneci's coach, first discovered Comaneci at the age of six. The first time she competed at the junior national championships in 1969, finishing 13th. She took the title in 1970. The first time she competed in an international competition in a preolympics junior competition for countries in the Communist bloc, she took home three gold medals. In 1973 and 1975, she was crowned all-around Junior Champion. At her first competition as a senior, in 1975 she bested the Russian Lyudmila Turishcheva the five-time European champion winning four gold and one silver medal.
